Creation Care Alliance of Western North Carolina
Recently, the Creation Care Alliance and member groups were featured in the Asheville Citizen-Times in an article titled “Asheville Faith Congregations Are Going Green.”
The story describes how faith communities are making Earth a better place. Considering that the first Earth Day wasn’t until 1970, it’s not surprising that some faith communities are just getting started in environmentally friendly practices.
Rev. Samantha Gonzalez-Block describes her communities’ efforts, “We try to incorporate the Earth and God’s creation in terms of any kind of justice, such as for the people or the poor. We often pray from our garden. Its an important element.” Examples of groups doing this work include The Rock Hills Missionary Baptist Church led by Spencer E. Hardaway in Shiloh and the Shiloh Community Association who jointly hold pop-ups with fresh produce, compost their left overs and recycle all waste.
