CCA Gathering-Composting for congregations, Garden and Climate Solutions
November 14, 6-7:30
Skyland United Methodist Church
1984 Hendersonville Rd, Asheville, NC 28803
Creation Care Team Leaders, clergy, and all those passionate about creation care, ecological justice and loving our neighbors are welcome to join this gathering regarding faith and sustainability. We will be sharing moments of inspiration, support one another, and learn ways to more significantly transform our communities to be more compassionate and resilient. We also hope to get a peek at the new LED lights and garden at Skyland! Join us in South Asheville.
We are excited to host Public Lands Director Bob Gale to talk with us about composting and to explore the ways Skyland UMC is supporting their garden and the climate through composting. Project Drawdown explains it this way, “Nearly half of the solid waste produced globally is organic or biodegradable. Much of it ends up in landfills; there, it decomposes in the absence of oxygen and produces the greenhouse gas methane, which is up to 34 times more powerful than carbon dioxide over a century. While many landfills have some form of methane management, it is far more effective to divert organic waste to composting.”
All are welcome.
