Mission: Earth 2018

Middle and High School Youth groups

Service Learning, Food, Ecology, Justice, Faith

October 7, 1-6:30pm

Basecamp at First Presbyterian Church

40 Church St, Asheville, NC 28801

The Creation Care Alliance and the Asheville Youth Mission are inviting youth groups from a variety of denominations to come together for food, service learning, prayer and to explore stories about creation care, justice, and faith. The afternoon will begin with a simple lunch and games at First Presbyterian Church.  Groups will travel to service project locations (in the past we have worked with Riverlink, Community Gardens, and 12 Baskets). After the work and learning, the groups will gather back at First Presbyterian for conversation, exploration of the intersection of faith, creation care and social justice and we will hear from special guest Abbey Ende. High School Senior, Abbey, will be sharing stories of courage, community, spirituality, and resilience from the mountains of India. Abbey spent part of her summer with the Ladakh community high in the Himalaya Mountains and learned about Tibetan Buddhism, agriculture, sustainability, climate change and will be sharing how the lessons she learned can be applied here in Western North Carolina.  Abbey was also a part of the #1 ranked Asheville High School Solar Warriors Eco Challenge team and will share a bit about her experience.

We will end the time with prayer and yummy snacks and will send groups on their way by 6:30pm.  Register your group by sending an email to Rev. Bill Buchanan at billbaym@gmail.com
