Question & Learn

Suggested Practices and Examples for Implementation:

  • Read a brief introduction to other faiths: Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, etc. What is different from your tradition? What is similar? Where do you find beauty in these teachings?
  • Pull out a map of your community – are there any neighborhoods you’ve never been to? Any community centers, bus lines, or parks you’ve never used? Any stores, businesses, or restaurants you’ve never been to? If yes, consider why.
  • Look up some demographics for your community. Are you in the majority or minority in race, age, gender, or socioeconomic class? What about your friends or coworkers? Begin to consider what it would look like to get to know and build authentic relationships with people who differ from you.
  • Learn about the Indigenous people whose land you live on. If you don’t know whose land you call home, learn.
  • Learn about wealth distribution and inequities in your region. What percentage of people in your community are food insecure? Is there a housing crisis where you live? Can people afford to live and work in your community?
  • Identify a trusted friend or family member with whom you can discuss your questions, learnings, and considerations.
